A Grammy Nod for National Orchestral Institute

UMD’s National Orchestral Institute hit a high note on Friday with a Grammy nomination for best orchestral performance.
The album “Ruggles, Stucky & Harbison: Orchestral Works,” released in June 2018, was recorded in June 2017 as part of the National Orchestral Institute + Festival, part of the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center’s Artist Partner Program. Founded at UMD in 1988, the National Orchestral Institute + Festival is a month-long festival during which young artists from across the country study, rehearse and perform with leading musicians and conductors.
"I’m thrilled and honored that our album was recognized … alongside four of the country’s greatest orchestras," said Richard Scerbo, NOI+F director. "This is a wonderful testament to the talent and passion of the students."
The 61st annual Grammy Awards will air Feb. 10 on CBS.
