Be Worldwise. Get Worldready.

We’re committed to extending the learning experience beyond the classroom and helping you to develop life-long skills through our new initiative, Be Worldwise. Get Worldready. Our initiative prepares students to adapt and thrive in the workplace and to shape the kind of global citizen they can become. It creatively integrates career preparation in the ARHU academic experience by offering strategic career preparation and academic advising; engaging faculty to develop new and reimagined courses, majors and minors and providing opportunities to apply scholarship to practice.

Academic Programs

ARHU is home to 14 departments and 79 bachelor’s degrees, minors and certificate programs, so you can tailor your degree (or double major) across various fields of study, including performing and visual arts, languages, literatures and cultures. With a 8 to 1 student to faculty ratio, ARHU offers you the benefits of a tight-knit community with access to the resources of a large, public research institution near the nation’s capital.

Scholarships and Academic Honors

Each year the college awards merit- and need-based scholarships to applicants who demonstrate exceptional accomplishment and intellectual promise.

With the help of our generous donors, scholarship amounts vary between $500 and $6,000 for an academic year. Some of the awards are renewable through four years of undergraduate study as long as the recipient maintains satisfactory academic performance. New student scholarships are announced mid-April to early May. Continuing student awards are typically awarded late spring.

Internships

Employers recognize the value that arts and humanities students bring to the workplace. More than 3/4 of surveyed employers seek students with a strong foundation in the liberal arts. The University Career Center @ ARHU works with you to assess your skills, values and interests to help you find opportunities that meet your goals. Work with academic and career advisors to incorporate internships, living-learning programs, global experiences and research into your academic plan. Learn more about strategic career preparation.
