Student Degree Recital: Ceylon Mitchell D.M.A. Flute

College of Arts and Humanities | School of Music | The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center Thursday, November 18, 2021 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, Gildenhorn Recital Hall

Join us in-person at The Clarice or watch the livestream from the comfort of your home.

Ceylon Mitchell II, a D.M.A. flute student studying with Dr. Sarah Frisof, performs works by the Cuban composer Leo Brouwer. Featuring traditional tonality and Baroque era forms, avant-garde and aleatoric techniques, and Afro-Cuban strains, the program selections span Brouwer's three stages of composition and represent his eclectic sound universe. Throughout his output, his music is a kind of musical cartography and allegory of Latin America, with its most emblematic landscapes, characters and cultures. Passages with controlled indeterminacy and extended techniques in the musical forces (flute, guitar, and piano) create fascinating textures and colorful soundscapes connected to ancient and modern Latin American literature and culture.

He will be joined by guitarist Cristian Perez and pianist Alex Kostadinov.

Health & Safety for In-Person Attendance:

There may be COVID-19 safety policies in place, such as mask requirements, when you attend this event. Please see The Clarice's health and safety page for the most up-to-date information about attendance.
