ABOUT THE EVENT

UMD School of Music students vie for the opportunity to perform as a soloist with the UMD Symphony Orchestra in the final round of this annual competition. Finalists perform 15- to 20-minute excerpts of a concerto or concert piece for an independent jury panel. Following the jury’s deliberation, a winner and runners-up will be announced.

ABOUT THE UMD SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA (UMSO)

Through its committed and polished performances under the baton of David NeelyUMSO is dedicated to the power of musical communication. In its repertoire, the orchestra explores the intersection between traditional symphonic masterworks and marginalized works from various eras, with many programs featuring composers of diverse backgrounds.
