Directors: Erin Ridge & Gal Kohav
Musical Director: Han Wagner
Pianist: Rhys Burgess

Due to the unique circumstances presented by COVID-19, this year’s OperaTerps production has been reimagined as a completely original opera for the virtual stage!

Can You Keep A Secret? A Virtual Murder Mystery Opera is an original show featuring scenes, arias and art songs from a wide variety of operatic repertoire that highlights female, LGBTQ+ and BIPOC composers and librettists. The cast, featuring twelve UMD undergraduate vocalists and two OperaTerps alumni, has been hard at work rehearsing and filming over Zoom. OperaTerps cannot wait to bring this virtual opera to you!

In the year 2020, in the midst of a world pandemic, in a city that is like, but not quite like Chicago, there has been a MURDER. The count, head of the well-to-do Crown family, was murdered the night of the wedding between his daughter, Laura Crown, and her beloved Tommy Webster. The following day, detectives Duncan McGill and Haley Stone try to piece together the puzzle by holding thorough Zoom investigations of all potential suspects: the Crown family, the Webster family, employees and servants. Everyone is under suspicion. But the question remains...WHO MURDERED THE COUNT?

OperaTerps is a student-led ensemble affiliated with the School of Music.
