2026 ARHU Commencement: Undergraduate Ceremony
We are excited to welcome Jason Reynolds ’05 back to campus to be our 2026 undergraduate commencement speaker. A proud graduate of UMD’s Department of English, Reynolds is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of more than 20 books for children and young adults. A 2024 MacArthur Fellow, he is best known for his novels “All American Boys” (co-written with Brendan Kiely), the Track series and “Long Way Down,” which received Newbery, Printz and Coretta Scott King Honors. Among his many accolades, Reynolds was named the National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature by the Library of Congress for 2020–22.
The College of Arts and Humanities is pleased to announce that its May 2026 graduation ceremonies will bring together all units across the college for two celebrations—one for all undergraduates and the other for graduate students.
The new College of Arts and Humanities commencement ceremonies will aim to showcase the diverse perspectives, identities and contributions of our 11 departments and three schools. Together across disciplines, the College of Arts and Humanities helps students build essential skills—like empathy, critical thinking and communication—that prepare them not only for meaningful careers but also for lives of purpose.
We look forward to celebrating the important milestone of commencement with our graduates, their families and friends and our faculty and staff.
