Dvořák's Symphony No. 8: UMD University Orchestra

Dvořák's Symphony No. 8: UMD University Orchestra
ABOUT THE EVENT
A piece poetic in nature and rife with elements of Czech folk music, Dvořák’s eighth symphony draws inspiration from the natural world, providing pastoral reflections on the cycles of life and death. Written just four years before his ninth and final symphony, the eight symphony evokes the pastures, woods and countryside of Bohemia, with particular inspiration drawn from Dvořák’s time spent at his country home in Vyoská during the summer of 1889. Each movement plays on these themes of nature and country, propelling the work to its joyful conclusion.
This performance will also feature The Hebrides Overture by Felix Mendelssohn and the Overture to Don Giovani by W.A. Mozart.
