Experience the UMD Symphony Orchestra and UMD Wind Orchestra presenting back-to-back works that tell a more complete story of The Rite of Spring!
Many people know the tale of The Rite of Spring, Igor Stravinsky’s ballet and orchestral work that depicts a pagan celebration of spring in which a young girl is chosen to be a sacrificial victim and dances herself to death. But, have you ever considered the point of view of the young girl who dies to appease the Gods of Spring? Originally premiered by the UMD Wind Orchestra in Spring 2023, Clarice Assad’s Multiverse: Another Rite of Spring tells the same story, but from the perspective of the sacrificial maiden, posing a unique counterpoint to Stravinsky’s work.
