Baltimore Symphony Orchestra: Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde

College of Arts and Humanities | The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center Friday, March 6, 2026 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm Dekelboum Concert Hall

About the Event

Jonathon Heyward, conductor
Sasha Cooke, mezzo-soprano
Russell Thomas, tenor

For its final Clarice Presents performance of the 2025 –26 Season, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) presents a riveting and far-ranging program that spans the iconoclastic history of contemporary classical music. The evening begins with Antonín Dvořák's late 19th-century concert overture In Nature's Realm. A sprightly and lyrical work, In Nature's Realm expertly incorporates Bohemian folk signifiers into a beautifully serene musical landscape. Next, the orchestra presents the world premiere of an as-yet-untitled new work, co-commissioned by The Clarice and the BSO, by British composer Grace-Evangeline Mason. The performance ends with Gustav Mahler's awe-inspiring Das Lied von der Erde (The Song of the Earth). Tenor Russell Thomas and mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke join the BSO for this divine masterwork.
