Spear: Nelson Mandela and the Revolutionaries
Join Professor of History Paul Landau as he discusses his 2022 book, “Spear: Mandela and the Revolutionaries.” He’ll delve into the racism, land dispossession and violence that was rampant during the time of apartheid in South Africa, and how African nationalists and Marxists destabilized the system to open the way for a new state. He’ll conclude the talk by exploring the long-term results of that effort.
About the Colloquium Series:
The College of Arts and Humanities (ARHU) at the University of Maryland continues its successful Dean's Colloquium Series on Race, Equity and Justice, which seeks to introduce audiences to faculty expertise on issues of systemic racism, inequality and social justice. The colloquium and conversation series, which began in 2020, is hosted by ARHU's new dean, Stephanie Shonekan. The events are free and take place virtually.
