News - Web User Guide

When To Create A News Item

Create a news item when you want to share noteworthy or important information about your unit or program with visitors to the website. E.g. "Student X Wins Scholarship," "Professor X Receives Award for Their Book."

A news item is different from an event. Create an event when your unit is organizing a public or social occasion and would like to display that even on your website's calendar. Examples of events include conferences organized and hosted by your unit, awards ceremonies for students, book talks by faculty or visiting scholars, socializing events for students organized by your unit, exhibitions, performances and many others.

All news items will show up in the aggregate news at the bottom of your site's newsroom. Using tags and display areas, you can also choose to display any given news item in a variety of areas across your website, including the home page hero, home page news, featured news in your newsroom, research news, and elsewhere.
