Dvořák's Symphony No. 8

Dvořák's Symphony No. 8

The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center Saturday, June 8, 2019 8:00 pm Dekelboum Concert Hall,

Maryland-native Andrew Grams returns home to lead a tour-de-force program featuring Dvořák’s pastoral Symphony No. 8. In his eighth symphony, Dvořák invokes folk Bohemian idioms filled with earthy tones and bird-like sounds. Commissioned by the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Anna Clyne's five-movement suite Abstractions captures the essence and energy of artwork on exhibit at the Baltimore Museum of Art.

Gramophone calls Orpheus Chamber Orchestra bassoonist Frank Morelli’s playing “a joy to behold.” In Mozart’s intimate and masterful Concerto for Bassoon, Morelli, part of NOI+F’s 2019 faculty roster, navigates a remarkable diversity of articulation styles and an extraordinary range.

Program:

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Bassoon Concerto in B-flat major
Anna Clyne: Abstractions
Antonín Dvořák: Symphony No. 8

This is an EnCue-enabled event.

Mix and Mingle in NOI+F's SPARK! Lounge after the performance!

The National Orchestral Institute + Festival brings together aspiring orchestral musicians from across the country for a month of dynamic music-making and professional exploration. Chosen by a rigorous, cross-country audition process, these young artists present passionate and awe-inspiring performances of adventuresome repertoire at The Clarice and in the community.
